Over 80 million years ago, in the late cretaceous age, ammonites of the species Placentieceras populated the sub-tropical inland seas and their fossil shells are now collected and sold as rare and fascinating gemstones.
Bearpaw Sea
The Bearpaw formation is the main region for Ammonites of high energy level and gemstone quality. It reaches from the Canadian provinces Alberta and Saskatchewan down to Montana in the US.
Iinisskimm
The local Kainah-tribe called the Ammonite Iinisskimm (“buffalo stone”) and believed it to magically help hunting by attracting buffaloes and also to hold healing powers, used by shamans for their ancient ceremonies.

The Feng Shuin tradition, too, held Ammolite in high regards as a conductor of Chi-energy and therefore well-being, a spiritual antidote to detox the whole body.
